Introducing "Art in Athens"

Dear blog readers,

Through this blog--"Art in Athnes" (http://artinathens.blogspot.com/), I set out to explore the rich art culture in Athens, Nelsonville and vicinity.

I am a journalism student who like many of you, enjoys the diversity of colors, sizes, shapes, textures and patterns in everyday objects. So I am combining my "journalistic" curiosity and my "laywomanish" love of art, in this blog project.

My plan is to meet with the local artists working with different materials such as paper, glass, fabric, wood etc. and understand the process behind creation of the art work. I have always wondered about how these artists come up with such fantastic ideas and how the ideas are then transformed into works of art.

I hope to find out answers to these questions.

Another striking part of Athens and Nelsonville community is the presence of a number of art galleries and showrooms. Those will be on my list too. These galleries are simply exciting because we get to enjoy work of different artists and in different mediums, all at one place.

I am thrilled about this project, and I look forward to your comments and suggestions. Feel free to comment and correct.

If you know an artist I could talk to, please let me know and I will be happy to get in touch with him/her. Hope you enjoy reading the blog!

  1. Looks great, Ash! If you get a chance, you might want to check out the art being displayed in Stuarts Opera House in Nelsonville; we always have a number of local artists displaying their paintings or quilts there. :)
